Staying Motivated
Motivation, it isn’t an emotion or a feeling or something we might wake up with one day. By definition it is the process that initiates, guides and maintains goal orientated behaviours. Motivation can take work but once it is there we can form a habit to keep us going.
So how do we get motivated and how do we stay motivated?
Here are our top tips!
Just start with setting one goal and make it simple. For example getting to one class, being able to run around the block, being able to do 10 push ups. Make it something short, sharp and measurable and not just ‘get fit’, ‘be healthier’, ‘loose weight’. And then work out what you need to make that goal happen – find a class that fits in your schedule, do a core class to build strength to do push ups, run to the end of the street.
Get excited! Think about the end result, think about how good you will feel then chase that feeling!
Find a friend, because two is better than one as they say. Having a friend working out with you is a great motivation but putting yourself with likeminded people will encourage you and keep you working towards your goals. And why stop with just one friend, find a community that will help encourage and inspire you. What better way to stay motivated than going to workout in a place that feels like home.
Just keep showing up until it becomes a habit. Motivation may come and go, but it will always come back if you just keep on showing up. Book classes, create a schedule, create a routine and that motivation will come much easier to you.
Plan out your workouts in advance, then add those classes and appointments to your calendar and set reminder alerts!
Embrace your competitive side and joining a challenge or make one yourself with a friend. Because nothing motivates us more than winning!
Lay it all out, your workout clothes and runners that is! Pack or literally lay it out the night before ready to go – don’t give yourself an excuse not to do it!
Make it well planned by getting an instructor to help you plan out your classes for the week. Not only will they be able to help with choosing the right ones for your goals but you will become more accountable.
Book a non-refundable class because nothing motivates us more than losing money!
Reward yourself for doing your workout, for reaching that goal and make it something good! Pilates socks, new workout gear, an air fryer – whatever works!
There are plenty of things that can help boost your motivation, but the number one thing is you. So have a go at these tips and tricks, but remember to show up for yourself.
